Remove unnecessary burden

Sometimes it’s hard to say what exactly creates tension. There may be no clear reason, and yet inside there is pressure – to understand, to manage, to keep up. As if everything depended on us.

But before the one who tries appears, life is already happening. The breath is already flowing. A thought has already arisen. Maybe there is no need to carry a burden that was never truly ours.

In this fragment of Satsang, there is a clear recognition: not everything that happens has to be carried as “mine.” Awareness already holds this moment – before the one appears who tries to fix or understand. And that is what brings lightness.

Does Everything Really Depend on Us?

We often feel responsible for things that simply happened. For a body we did not choose. For thoughts that arise before we even notice them. For decisions that seem to come from somewhere deeper than choice.

Over time, this sense of responsibility becomes a burden. But even before the one who tries appears – something is already present. From this presence flows every reaction, every action, even what seems to be “ours.”

It is not about resignation. But perhaps it is not necessary to believe so strongly that everything depends on us. Sometimes relief comes not when something is solved, but when the need to solve it disappears.

Highlights of Satsang:

  • Awareness Comes Before What Appears [1:00]

“Is there anywhere where you are not?”

This question arises at the beginning of the meeting and opens a space that does not need an answer. Silence appears. Something pauses. Before thought, reaction, or any experience arises – presence is already here. It is what contains it all.

Nitya reminds us that everything that appears is already contained in Awareness. A thought, a breath, an emotion – none of them appear outside of it. Awareness does not begin when something happens. It is within Awareness that everything takes place.

  • The Room That Does Not Need to Change [5:25]

One metaphor speaks of a room – not as a physical place, but as the space in which everything moves. There is no division between those who feel more and those who do not yet see. Everyone is already in this room. And whatever appears in it – thoughts, tensions, the need to understand – is not outside of it.

Experience continues. The body still feels, the mind still works, emotions still move. But all of this appears within something greater. The room Nitya points to does not limit or judge. It is the background that allows anything to happen – and it does not need to be changed.

We Are Not the Ones Doing It All [14:10]

“Who made this body?
Who created the thought that appeared?
Who is in charge of the breath?”

At the end, a recognition arises that can ease the tension, even without words. Perhaps we don’t need to try so hard. Perhaps not everything needs to be controlled. Not because something was done wrong, but because we are not the ones who invent and direct it all.

Life is already moving. There is no need to pretend it is otherwise. And that is what brings lightness – dropping the backpack we never truly needed to carry, though it seemed essential until now.

Not Everything Needs to Be Carried Alone

It is not about rejecting the body, emotions, or experiences. All of this continues to happen. The senses function, thoughts arise, the body breathes. But this does not mean that a “me” is standing behind each of these movements.

We are not the ones who set everything in motion. A thought does not ask for permission to appear. The breath does not wait for our approval. A decision is not always preceded by choice. Things happen – without the need for a doer.

Recognition does not mean that something disappears. Rather, something stops being heavy. There is space – for the breath, for simplicity, for ordinary presence. What we seek is not hidden. It requires no effort and no change. It is already here – before thought, before the need to find it.

Relief does not come as the result of a decision. It reveals itself when the one who tried to manage it all is no longer there.

Life unfolds by itself, and the burden often comes only from the idea that we are the ones in control. If you want to go deeper into this topic, the full Satsang recording is available here:

Setting boundaries
