Freedom to experience

Have you ever felt emotions so intensely that they seemed to be part of your identity? Fear, shame, joy – they not only appear, but seem to tell stories about ourselves. In Satsang Nitya points out that emotions are a natural part of our experience, but they do not have to limit us or take on meanings that might define us. The key is in the freedom of experience – the ability to accept everything as it is, without the need to change or analyze.

Accepting emotions without resistance

Nitya emphasizes that emotions, even the most intense ones, are natural phenomena that do not require analysis or change. Freedom of experience means being open to whatever arises, without the need for control or judgment. Emotions, like waves, come and go, leaving space for peace.

“In nonduality, you are accepted exactly as you are. You don’t have to change your emotions or give them meaning – just let them flow and give yourself the freedom to experience everything.”

By accepting emotions in their entirety, we free ourselves from the need to interpret or control them. This approach allows us to see that emotions are not an obstacle, but a part of our being. When we allow them to be, we discover deep harmony and the possibility of fully experiencing the moment.

Highlights of Satsang:

  • Emotions and thoughts – what is the difference? (00:55)

Nitya points out that thoughts are quick and fleeting, while emotions often last longer and can seem more involved. However, both thoughts and emotions are natural phenomena that do not have to define us. Accepting them as they are allows us to recognize their fleeting nature and free ourselves from the need to control them.

  • The illusion of the need for repair (07:51)

Often we feel like we need to solve “the last problem” or work through one thing to achieve peace. This is an illusion that distances us from the reality of the present moment. Freedom does not require conditions – it is available at any moment when we stop trying to improve ourselves or our experiences. Embracing what is opens up space for sobriety and fullness of life.

What is freedom in experiencing emotions?

Do you ever see emotions and thoughts as obstacles? Nitya teaches us that they are a natural part of our experience. Accepting them opens us to true freedom, allowing us to see them as momentary phenomena that do not require control or change. In this simplicity lies the peace that comes naturally when we stop seeing emotions as limitations and start seeing them as an integral part of life.

We don’t have to change what we feel to find peace. We just have to accept each moment as it is. The recording below is a space to explore this topic and discover how fully acknowledging emotions and thoughts leads to true freedom.

Mind vs. Consciousness - what is the difference?

In everyday experience, the mind rarely gives us peace. Instead of silence – thoughts. Instead of presence – analysis. And yet, beneath all of this, there is something that never changes. Something that doesn’t try to understand or reach anything. Something that simply is.

Need for control

Sometimes there’s a sense that everything has already been understood. That what we are is not just a body or a collection of thoughts, but something deeper — a quiet presence that isn’t dependent on circumstances. There may even be a moment of recognition: life isn’t happening to us, but within us.
